Spay Neuter Project of Park County

A nonprofit organization

The Spay Neuter Project, an all-volunteer organization, provides low-cost, donation-based spay/neuter and vaccination services in Park County. Where spay/neuter is the norm, abandoned and neglected animals are rare. Where spay/neuter is the norm, public health and safety prevail. Where spay/neuter is the norm, animal-human interactions enhance community well-being. Our motto: IF IT WORKS, FIX IT!!

We hold regular high-impact, high-volume Big Kitty Fix spay-neuter clinics for pet cats, barn and farm cats, and we provide cost-share vouchers for individuals to get their dogs and cats altered at participating veterinarians. These vouchers support local veterinarians who wish to assist clients who might be otherwise unable to afford their services.

We work on a donation-based system in which people pay what they determine they can afford at clinics and for cost-share vouchers. These donations make up approximately 50 percent of our funding. The other 50 percent comes through community fundraising. GIVE A HOOT is our most significant fundraising effort and enables us to help animals and their people on a continuing basis.

In our 2024 Big Kitty Fix clinics, the Spay Neuter Project altered and vaccinated 398 cats, and Dr. Laurel Rhodes provided low-cost vaccinations and/or microchips for 100 dogs and 83 cats. In addition, 97 dogs and 19 cats were altered and vaccinated by local veterinarians during 2024 through our cost-share voucher program.

Testimonials

"The vouchers provided by the Spay Neuter Project allow us to give back to our community in a meaningful way, helping to control pet overpopulation and providing access to vaccinations for our neighbors who otherwise may not be able to afford them." - Ellen Holbrook, DVM.
