Livingston Center for Art and Culture

To spark new ways of seeing and thinking through the experience of art and culture.

The Livingston Center for Art and Culture (LCAC) is a vibrant community organization whose mission is to “spark new ways of seeing and thinking through the experience of art and culture.” Now in our 26th year, we host extensive art programming for local youth and adults through 12 to 14 diverse exhibits a year and many art classes. We also host musical events, poetry readings, lectures, and artist talks. Most of our shows focus on a single, broad theme, as interpreted by multiple artists across many media. Last year alone, more than 260 artists exhibited in our gallery. Many of our programs focus on our community, including the annual non-juried Park County Community Art Show, the Children's Art Exhibit involving local pre-schools, Montessori, and Head Start programs, and the MSU Student Show. The Park County Community Art Show, in particular, provides positive support and widespread participation from locals of varying abilities, interests, and incomes, ages 2 to 102, in a format that allows people to tell their own stories and engages the entire community.

In 2025, we hosted over 260 individual artists in 13 art shows, displaying over 3,500 individual art pieces from January through December.  Through our programming and collaborations in the community, we hosted 10,000 plus visitors to our space, 20% of whom were new to our space. Between our summer art camps and workshops, we invited more than 200 participants and students into the classroom space. Newly renovated this spring, our colorful, comfortable classroom has already hosted over 50 students. 

Run by a volunteer, working Board of Directors, volunteers, and two part-time staff members, the LCAC looks forward to the collaboration and relevance in our community supported by you.

Thirty-two years ago, Steve and I arrived in the Shields Valley looking for an escape from Houston summers and to find the small-town feel and warmth we both grew up with. Once we found Livingston, we knew we had found our home; friendly, unassuming people in a small western town, but much more…. Rich culture and interest in the arts and artists.

We had several Plein Air artists ask to use our ranch vistas for their projects. As we got to know the artists and the organization in town, the Livingston Center for Art and Culture (LCAC), we knew we had found a group we could support. So, we hosted a Plein Air Patron/Artist barbecue and met so many engaging people with whom we have become friends.

Steve and I love knowing our support of LCAC contributes to programs for the artists and community members alike. We especially love the support it gives to children and the future of the Livingston art community. We are so happy our grandsons have this opportunity.

The Plein Air event has grown over the years and attracts many fine artists from near and far. We smile every time we walk past the nice paintings we have acquired through the plein air art sale that hold wonderful memories of a particular artist or an area landscape. LCAC activities in Livingston benefit all the art organizations in the area by encouraging fine arts appreciation through participation.
