About this Organization

Yellowstone Ballet Company is a classical Montana ballet company founded by Kathleen Rakela who began teaching ballet in Livingston in 1987. Ms. Rakela incorporated the non-profit company in 1990 to give rural dancers performance opportunities.

YBC is supported by donations, grants, ticket sales, & the hard work of many volunteers. Over the years these donations & volunteer efforts have given YBC the resources to stage great classical works: CINDERELLA (1990, 2001, 2014); STARS OF THE BOSTON BALLET (1992); LA FILLE MAL GARDEE, (1993, 2000); GISELLE; (1994, 2011, 2018); SWAN LAKE (2012); BALLET GALA (2022); BOOTS & BALLET (2023); SONGS & DANCES OF LOVE (2020, 2025) with famous pas de deus, opera, poetry; & 74 performances of THE NUTCRACKER (1991 - 2024).

YBC has created original ballets: GIRLS OF THE GOLDEN WEST(1998); the award-winning ROMEO & JULIET OF THE ROCKIES (1999); THE SONG OF HIAWATHA with narration by Robert Worobec (2005); HANSEL & GRETEL ~ WITH A TWIST with narration by the late Margot Kidder (2008); PINOCCHIO (2010, 2024) with original music by Dean. Anderson and narration by Terry Canady; & THE ELVES & THE SHOEMAKER (2013); THE LITTLE MERMAID (2015).
