About Us

Northern Yellowstone Open Lands serves Park County, Montana, landowners and communities who are committed to preserving the region’s unparalleled natural landscapes and working lands. 

A regional initiative of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT), Northern Yellowstone Open Lands is grounded in the local priorities of Park County residents and benefits from GVLT’s 35+ years of expertise. Recognized as a leading land trust in the West, we operate to the standards of the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. 

Since 1995, we’ve partnered with visionary landowners to permanently protect more than 22,000 acres of working lands and wildlife habitat in Park County. To protect these special places, our team specializes in conservation easements—voluntary agreements with landowners that limit the type and amount of development on a property while keeping it in private ownership. Our Northern Yellowstone Open Lands team is honored to serve and support the families who keep our open lands wild and working.

While development pressure in the region continues to grow, so too does our resolve to protect the rural character that defines our home.
