Artemis Institute

A nonprofit organization

Artemis Institute seeks to elevate awareness about the important relationship between human culture, nature and land in Park County, a vital touchstone of the world-renowned Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. We develop innovative programs and projects through the formats of art, journalism and community events designed to educate the public about what's at stake. Today, we see this mission through the lens of ecological literacy unfolding through the dynamic journalism of Yellowstonian.

Our first program, Remote Studio launched in 2006. It had two goals:

(1) inspire and empower architecture students to take a stronger professional lead in issues of sustainability and conservation
(2) provide people who live in Greater Yellowstone with inspiring community structures and environments found in the wildland-rural interface to enrich our sense of belonging.

From 2006-15 Remote Studio students built community projects across the region including the beloved Pine Creek Campground pavilion and installations found in Myer's View Park.
In 2020, we launched Wildlifes, a public art project, developed to bring greater awareness of the fragility and need to care for the ecosystem.
In 2024 Yellowstonian was created by Todd Wilkinson to generate maximum impact by producing engaging content widely circulated to fuel civil discussions about important issues affecting Park County. Wilkinson, a well-known author/journalist has a proven track record of generating reporting that causes readers to pay attention. Since it appeared as an online journalism project Yellowstonian already demonstrated its appeal, accruing more than 15,000 followers on Facebook and achieving more than 600,000 various kinds of engagement, including discussions not happening through old traditional print or other media.
