Livingston Ice Skating Association

Our mission is Building Community on Ice. 

We disguise social interaction, team and community building, opportunities to get out of the house in the winter, meet new friends, improve mental health and move your body as ICE SKATING!  We believe in the power of connection to improve mental and physical well-being. We believe in more opportunities for our youth and families. We believe in having fun. Our goal is to provide an affordable ice skating experience to all Park County residents. 

Each November, we set up a small ice rink in the Ice (Steer) Barn at the Park County Fairgrounds.  The chiller system we purchased 4 years ago allows us to operate the rink from Thanksgiving Day through mid-March, even if the mercury pushes well above 32 degrees.  Our annual operating expenses near $60,000 which include ice chiller maintenance and operation, Ice Barn rental and insurance, ice maintenance equipment, seasonal rink manager salary, rental skate purchase and upkeep, programming support and more. 

Why an ice rink in Livingston?  Our community struggles with mental illness and suicide, poverty, and affordable access to many opportunities (housing, food, entertainment). Many of our winter activities such as alpine skiing and snowmobiling are expensive and require travel to access them.  So what is there to do in Livingston on a blustery winter day? Skating at an ice rink which is walkable from 4 nearby schools, open 9 am to 9 pm everyday and is free and open to all is a great solution!  Kids learn important problem solving skills as they navigate "free play" with friends, expand their muscle memory with new skills, and learn responsibility by helping take care of a community resource.  Adults can blow off steam in a friendly Thursday night 3 v 3 hockey game, spend meaningful time with their children, learn a new skill, and volunteer for their community.  Please come skate with us!
